Sedation Dentistry

What is sedation dentistry and -am I candidate

At Dentistry at Waterview, we offer sedation with our treatment options which can help to accommodate patients who:
  • Need more than one procedure within a single appointment
  • Are unable to sit still for long periods of time
  • Have overly sensitive teeth
  • Have a dentist phobia
  • Have gag reflexes that are easily triggered
  • Prefer to be relaxed throughout dental procedures
  • Have pain in their back, neck and/or shoulders
  • Would prefer to not remember their dental procedure (Amnesia through sedation)

Here at Dentistry at Waterview we provide safe and simple solutions to your dental anxiety. First, we schedule our patients through a consultation that covers medical history, anxiety history and a discussion of concerns and fears.

We manage anxiety using three methods including conscious sedation, oral (pill) sedation and nitrous oxide. To encourage relaxation and provide a comfortable, relaxing environment, we provide blankets, shaded eyewear, HD TVs and relaxing music.

What does laughing gas do for children

Nitrous Oxide is a safe and effective sedative mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask fitted over your nose. This is offered to help you relax and feel more comfortable during treatment. Considered minimal but very effective in children and adult for small dental procedures.

Oral Sedation

This is medication is taken orally at our office a few minutes before our sedation to help you relax and enjoy and anxiety free appointment. Oral sedation can be minimal or moderate depending on your level of anxiety, this and many other details will be discussed at your consultation visit.

IV Sedation

If you are anxious about visiting the dentist, this form of sedation will help you relax during your treatment. Patients usually remain conscious but will have an anxiety free dental experience and possibly forget about the appointment. Our dentists are fully certified to perform IV Sedation Dentistry and only use medication approved by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Schedule a consultation and we would love to discuss what is the best sedation option for you! We have provided sedation for hundreds of patients who avoided the dentist in the past for many years and now love to come in and see us!
